The bathroom is the room where fragrance works hardest. It is small, warm and humid, which carries scent quickly — and it is the one room guests always see.
What Works in a Bathroom
Clean and green, rather than sweet. Citrus, linen, herbs and fig cut through and leave a room smelling genuinely fresh. Heavy vanillas and gourmands can turn cloying in a small humid space.
- Hamptons Fresh Linen — lemon, green bamboo and white florals over soft musk. The closest thing to clean laundry, and the safest choice of all.
- Lime Basil Mandarin — zesty lime and aromatic basil over warm mandarin. Sharp, bright and spa-like.
- Valensole Amber & Lavender — bergamot, lemon and lavender over a warm ambered base. Calming for a bathroom you actually soak in.
- Tuscan Fig & Cedar — green fig leaf and cedar. Fresh but softer, for a more masculine bathroom.
Candle or Diffuser?
In a bathroom we would usually suggest a reed diffuser: it works continuously with no flame, so the room is always ready for visitors, and there is nothing to remember to light or blow out. A candle is lovely beside a bath, but only scents the room while it burns.
